A Greater Manchester side boasts an non-professional veterans team with nine ex- Premier League players in their present lineup.

222 Premier League Goals, Three Hundred Twenty-Five Global Caps

The team Veterans Over-35s are based in south Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Division.

Their roster this season features 9 former top-flight players, with a total 1,801 top-flight games.

This high-profile team also includes 222 top division goals and over 320 global caps.

They include Papiss Cisse, who netted 37 scores in over 100 appearances for Newcastle United after moving to them for £9m from German league side SC Freiburg in 2012.

He made his first appearance for Wythenshawe in their most recent home-field game versus reigning title holders their rivals and scored every one of the six scores in a six-two victory - featuring a half-hour opening period triple.

Wythenshawe's roster for this season also includes ex- professionals such as English and Liverpool forward Emile Heskey, Hull City and Burnley midfielder George Boyd, Everton striker Oumar Niasse, Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League championship winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

In total, the ex- Premier League players have secured 15 major trophies and moved for combined transfer fees of about £123m.

Household Figures and Global Stars

Stephen Ireland began playing for the team during preseason this summer through close friend and current Wythenshawe player Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland player then asked other former professionals, who all play in a weekly small-sided match, to participate.

Former Senegalese forward Oumar Niasse, who scored 12 goals in sixty-five Premier League games for Everton and still attends their home games, also made his first appearance against the opposition - who are located in Liverpool and use an Everton warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A mate Stephen Ireland said 'come and play, it's enjoyable'," commented the striker.

"Then he told me we were playing a side from the city and the surprise I had when I saw them wearing Everton shirts - I thought this is wrong for me!

"If you still love football and you feel you can still do it, wherever you can kick a ball, what are you going to choose?

"The people who turn up and watch are pleased and to make someone's day if they watch us competing there and to pose us questions - it's more like the joy of us getting somewhere we can play, with structure of course."

So great is the strength in depth at Wythenshawe, he had his debut at full-back.

"That's a bit different but then, I enjoy running and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

Dreamlike' Experience

In addition to Cisse's 6 goals on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd hit five on his debut appearance and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by position, notched a triple in one match up front.

The team are top of the Top Division with three victories from three and a goal difference of +19.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has played at two global tournaments for Honduras, in addition to featuring in more than two hundred top-flight matches.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these former top-flight players," remarked the player.

"I think I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Even Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd England caps.

"We held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"We really haven't stopped chatting about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the way home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a bunch of regular fellas.

"Now we are eager for the return fixture."

'We'll Still Take the League'

The manager manages the opposition vets team, who won the Premier Division title last season, along with his co-manager.

"Our team went 1-0 up and had a
